Questions
Short answers, drawn from the institute's published rules.
Do I need to take a course first?
No. Anyone may sit any level directly after the free placement test. No attendance is required at any level.
Does the institute run courses?
No. The institute assesses and certifies. It recognises training providers and licenses independent trainers, but it does not deliver training.
How is an assessment run?
Live, with an identity check, camera and screen on, a sandbox for the work, and an adaptive oral viva. A sample of sittings is double-marked by human examiners every month.
What does it cost?
A fee per level and strand, shown on the individuals page. The placement test is free.
What if I do not pass?
There is a cooling period of 14 days before you may sit the same level again.
What happens if my currency lapses?
The level is not removed. The register shows it as held, currency lapsed, until you take a currency pulse.
What may a training provider say about its courses?
Only what the institute's published map says, such as which levels and strands the curriculum prepares for. A misstatement leads to delisting.
How do I appeal a result?
Within 30 days of the result or decision. A panel that did not take the original decision hears the appeal.
What happens to my data during an assessment?
Identity checks, proctoring signals and the sandbox record are used to run and protect the assessment. The full data notice, with retention periods, is published before the first intake.
Can adjustments be made for accessibility?
Yes. Adjustments to the format of a sitting are considered before the sitting, and the standard of the assessment does not change. The request procedure is published before the first intake.
How is the AIQ number worked out?
It is the sum of your levels across the fifteen strands, out of 90. The band, from Spark to Nova, is read from the number.
How can someone verify my certificate?
They enter the verification code printed on it on the public register.
